Reborna Biosciences Achieves First Milestone in Research Collaboration with Ono Pharma

2026.08.31

Reborna Biosciences, Inc. (Headquarters: Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan; Representative Director: Koji Fuji; “Reborna”) is pleased to announce that it has achieved the first milestone under its drug discovery collaboration with Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka, Japan; President and COO: Toichi Takino; “Ono Pharma”) targeting rare diseases of the central nervous system (CNS).

This collaboration is being conducted under a Research Collaboration and License Agreement signed on March 31, 2025, aims to discover innovative RNA-targeted small- molecule therapeutics for rare CNS disorders. With the achievement of this milestone, Reborna will receive a milestone payment under the agreement, as well as research funding from Ono Pharma for the next stage of development. The collaboration will now advance to the lead compound generation stage.

About This Milestone
The milestone achieved represents a key research and development goal jointly set by both companies and demonstrates the effectiveness of Reborna’s proprietary RNA-targeted drug discovery platform.
Since entering into the agreement, the two companies have worked in close collaboration to advance the discovery of small-molecule compounds against the target. The ability to achieve this first milestone rapidly with efficacy—against a target that had proven difficult to address using conventional small-molecule RNA-targeted drug discovery approaches—represents an important achievement and demonstrates that Reborna’s proprietary platform, built on full-length, three-dimensionally structured RNA, is a technology foundation that can be extended to other hard-to-drug targets and disease areas.
Reborna will continue to accelerate its research and development of drug candidate compounds with high binding affinity and superior RNA selectivity, leveraging its proprietary platform that harnesses full-length, three-dimensionally structured RNA as it naturally occurs in the human body—thereby driving value creation for its shareholders and investors.

■Comment from Koji Fuji, Representative Director of Reborna Biosciences, Inc.
We are delighted that our RNA-targeted small molecule drug discovery technology has enabled the successful generation of hit compounds. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone involved for their dedicated efforts. This research will now advance to the next stage toward lead compound generation. Reborna will continue to accelerate its R&D efforts—bringing together the full strength of our drug discovery capabilities—to achieve the next milestone and deliver innovative treatments to patients suffering from rare diseases as swiftly as possible.
